L/04 · Local Search Behaviour
How people search for businesses in Vancouver.
Because Vancouver lacks the numbered-quadrant or borough system found in Calgary or Toronto, local search behaviour here is driven by well-known neighbourhood names (e.g. Kitsilano, Yaletown, Gastown, Commercial Drive) — content and Google Business Profile service areas should reference these directly rather than defaulting to "Vancouver" as a single undifferentiated market.
The city's compact geography means driving distances between neighbourhoods are often short, so Google's distance factor in local ranking may matter less than in a spread-out market like Calgary — but relevance and prominence, the other two factors Google names, remain equally important.
Tourism-driven search volume adds a layer not present in Toronto or Calgary's search behaviour — hospitality, food service, and experience-based businesses see meaningful non-local search traffic that still needs to convert through local-style content and Google Business Profile signals.
